LGBTQ+ Families Editorial Review
**** "You’ve Found Oliver" by Dustin Thao has received a warm reception from readers, particularly those who cherished its predecessor, "You’ve Reached Sam." The sequel explores themes of grief, love, and the complexities of time, showcasing Oliver's journey as he navigates the aftermath of losing Sam. Many readers found the narrative engaging, highlighting the richness of emotions and the deeper exploration of alternate timelines. The story, while described as sweeter and comforting, carries a bit of whimsy and introspection that resonates well with those familiar with Thao's writing style. While the plot has improved from the first book, some readers felt that the emotional depth of the romantic storyline fell short. The connection between Oliver and the new character, Ben, felt underdeveloped, with readers expressing a desire for more chemistry to be portrayed through their interactions rather than being told outright. This aspect, combined with the relatively young portrayal of characters dealing with profound themes, led some reviews to suggest that the story could have tackled its subject matter with more maturity. Despite these critiques, the book has been praised for its beautiful hardcover design and its accessibility as a standalone read, helping newcomers connect with the storyline without needing prior knowledge of the first book. The open-ended conclusion is seen as a beautiful touch, inviting readers to reflect on the narrative and its implications. Overall, the blend of emotional storytelling, relatable characters, and thoughtful themes makes "You’ve Found Oliver" a commendable read for fans of Thao and young adult literature. **
