Embedded Systems Editorial Review
The book "Embedded Linux Systems with the Yocto Project" offers a fresh start for readers interested in learning about embedded Linux development with the Yocto Project, collecting all of today's relevant information about OE and Yocto in one place. The book provides a clear and coherent story on what the Yocto Project is, what its basic concepts are, what the typical problems solved by the project are, and what the tasks developing face and how they're handled in Yocto's workflow. The book is an excellent resource for both hobbyists and professionals who want to get started with the Yocto Project for embedded Linux development. The authors also acknowledge that some of the book's content may age rapidly, but they point the user to sources to find updated information. Furthermore, some readers argue that everything in the book is available for free online or that the Yocto Project Mega-Manual contains more information than the book. However, the book provides enough information in one place to make the first Yocto build and dozens of variations afterward easily accessible to readers. The book is a must-have for embedded system BSP developers, and reviewers, in general, found the book helpful in understanding and fleshing out some areas of Yocto that were shaky for them.
