Nutritionist's Take
Comfrey leaf powder, derived from the Symphytum officinale plant, possesses various traditional medicinal uses, primarily for its anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. While it is rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C, and B12, along with minerals like calcium and iron, nutritionists urge caution due to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which can be toxic to the liver and may pose serious health risks if ingested internally. Because of these potential drawbacks, particularly for individuals with liver concerns or during pregnancy, its suitability is limited. Comfrey leaf powder is more commonly recommended for external use rather than as a dietary supplement. Therefore, while the product may offer specific benefits, consumers should consult healthcare professionals before adding it to their routines to ensure safety and appropriateness for their health conditions.
