New Experiences Editorial Review
Pretties (Uglies) continues Tally Youngblood's journey as she navigates her new life as a 'pretty', grappling with the challenges of superficial beauty and societal expectations. The book brings back beloved characters while introducing new ones, placing Tally and her friends in convoluted situations that provoke thought about identity and self-worth. Though the plot initially seems predictable, it surprises readers with unexpected twists, emphasizing Scott Westerfield's talent for character development, making readers both love and hate them in equal measure. The author effectively evokes frustration through character interactions, turning a typical young adult narrative into a compelling exploration of beauty and conformity.
