ROCKLER Jig Accessories Editorial Review
The Rockler Doweling Jig is a great tool for those looking to add appeal to their wood box project. Although there is a slight learning curve, the end result is well worth it. The jig is easy to assemble but requires a 1/2" MDF backer board, which is not included. It would be helpful if the jig came with a starter backer board, and even a storage box for the assembled jig. Rockler recommends using specific drill bits, which are also not supplied with the jig. Some users have reported that the jig is made of cheap plastic and melted while drilling through 3/4" hard maple, causing the drill bit to move out of alignment and ruin the work piece. There are three sizes of dowel holes that can be used, but a new backer board is needed for each unless the board is unscrewed and moved over to create a new zero clearance hole. The Kregg clamps might be a better option than other brands to hold the jig in place during drilling. Overall, the Rockler Doweling Jig is a handy tool, but with some limitations.
